On the 19th of June 2014 the two Russian astronauts, Alekszandr Szkvorcov and Oleg Artyemjev successfully installed the S-band phased array communications antenna system outside of the Zvezda Module on the International Space Station (ISS) during a 7h 23′ spacewalk. The purpose of this antenna system is to provide stable digital TM/TC and data communication through the recently launched LUCS-5V data relay GEO satellite. The heart of the antenna system, the BPBS28 S-band SSPA has been developed and manufactured by BHE. With this, BHE has got another valuable space heritage.
